Last year we hosted our first ever NCC Christmas Party. We had a great time and hope to keep the tradition alive, but this year we want to add more Christmas cheer to it.
Yesterday was the kick off of the Advent Season. Advent is a period of expectant waiting for the celebration of the birth of our savior, Jesus. This season tends to get overlooked these days and our focus tends to turn toward sales and shopping.
I was absolutely appalled at the recent news of people being killed on 'Black Friday'. For what? A good sale? I want to call our church to re-focus ourselves on feeling the anticipation and the true meaning of Christmas.
To help us do this we are going to add something new to our Christmas Party. This year, there will be a fee to get into the party. Not a monetary fee, rather it will cost each couple
one pair of brand new kids shoes that we will donate to the
Tacoma Rescue Mission. (If you are single and want to attend you can team up with a friend... or just bring a pair yourself.)
In a recent meeting with a staff member of the
Tacoma Rescue Mission I was moved when she told me about a boy in one of their temporary housing units who was outside playing in the rain barefoot. When she suggested that he go in and put shoes on, he replied, "I don't have any." This is right in our own backyard!
This party is not only for NCCers, this is a great opportunity to invite friends, family, workmates, and neighbors. I'm sure they too would like to contribute to such a worthy cause as well.
Date: Friday, December 19thTime: 6:30 pm
Where: Central Lutheran (in the room we meet in on Sundays)*Childcare will be provided by our friends from Silvercreek Fellowship in Silverton, OR. The kids can eat with their parents and then go into a side room and play games and watch a movie.
A full dinner will be served and games will be played. This is a great opportunity for us to enjoy each other, remember what God has done for us, play some games, eat, and also bless the needy in our city. I can't think of a better way to spend Christmas.... or the 19th of December.
Remember, a donation of a brand new pair of shoes is required to get in. Any kids size will do.
Please RSVP to Bo Noonan by December 15th. I can't wait to see see you all... and that big pile of new shoes!
