Zimbabwe Crisis

Below is the video we showed on Sunday explaining the urgent need for help in Zimbabwe. Our family of churches, Newfrontiers, is taking an offering to help the churches in Zimbabwe lead in the rescue and rebuilding of their nation. Please do consider giving to such a worthy cause. Checks can be made to New Community Church... if you give cash, please place in an envelope marked for the Zimbabwe Crisis. Thank you for standing with our brothers and sisters in need.

Chronological Bible Storytelling (Training Seminar)

On January 10, 2009 we will be having a seminar on the value of Chronological Bible Storytelling led by Sam and Marlene Poe. If you have a desire to learn more about sharing God’s Big Salvation Story this seminar is for you.

We will be sharing on the importance of biblical storytelling in today’s world. There will also be practical instruction on the art of good storytelling. This seminar will be especially helpful for anyone who has a desire share the Good News with those who are not yet Christians, lead a small group, work with Children or to teach and train others in God’s Word.

We will begin our first session at 10:00 am and plan to finish by 3:30 in the afternoon. We will meet at 711 St. Helens, Tacoma, WA. There is no charge for the event. Please bring a sack lunch.

What's On and What's Off?

Wow, not quite our typical Tacoma weather! At this point this is what is still happening this weekend and what is not happening.

The Christmas Party is ON! As a reminder... 6:30 pm, Central Lutheran, dinner will be served, and please bring a new pair of kids shoes to donate to the Tacoma Rescue Mission.

The 4 pm Sunday meeting is ON! We will attempt to be there. I know it is supposed to snow so please use good judgment as to whether or not you can safely make it. This Sunday is our Christmas service. There will be a little performance from the kids, we will sing carols, and I will speak for about 15 mins. We will have extra Christmas drinks and cookies so plan to stick around... and consider who you can invite!

The monthly prayer and worship meeting is OFF! With snow in the forecast we will focus on one gathering for Sunday.

Dwell

This Sunday we will be starting a new once a month interview series called 'dwell'. The purpose of the series is to get people of influence in the city of Tacoma into our church telling us some of what they do and to encourage us to join in. Our goal is to expose the church to the good, the bad, and the ugly here in Tacoma. Our prayer is that God would lead us to be a solution in the city.

This Sunday we have the privilege of having David Curry with us. David is the CEO of the Tacoma Rescue Mission and long term resident of Tacoma. You won't want to miss this interview.

Each interview will last about 10 minutes. There will be a brief message after the interview as well.

Christmas Party!

Last year we hosted our first ever NCC Christmas Party. We had a great time and hope to keep the tradition alive, but this year we want to add more Christmas cheer to it.

Yesterday was the kick off of the Advent Season. Advent is a period of expectant waiting for the celebration of the birth of our savior, Jesus. This season tends to get overlooked these days and our focus tends to turn toward sales and shopping.

I was absolutely appalled at the recent news of people being killed on 'Black Friday'. For what? A good sale? I want to call our church to re-focus ourselves on feeling the anticipation and the true meaning of Christmas.

To help us do this we are going to add something new to our Christmas Party. This year, there will be a fee to get into the party. Not a monetary fee, rather it will cost each couple one pair of brand new kids shoes that we will donate to the Tacoma Rescue Mission. (If you are single and want to attend you can team up with a friend... or just bring a pair yourself.)

In a recent meeting with a staff member of the Tacoma Rescue Mission I was moved when she told me about a boy in one of their temporary housing units who was outside playing in the rain barefoot. When she suggested that he go in and put shoes on, he replied, "I don't have any." This is right in our own backyard!

This party is not only for NCCers, this is a great opportunity to invite friends, family, workmates, and neighbors. I'm sure they too would like to contribute to such a worthy cause as well.

Date: Friday, December 19th

Time: 6:30 pm

Where: Central Lutheran (in the room we meet in on Sundays)
*Childcare will be provided by our friends from Silvercreek Fellowship in Silverton, OR. The kids can eat with their parents and then go into a side room and play games and watch a movie.

A full dinner will be served and games will be played. This is a great opportunity for us to enjoy each other, remember what God has done for us, play some games, eat, and also bless the needy in our city. I can't think of a better way to spend Christmas.... or the 19th of December.

Remember, a donation of a brand new pair of shoes is required to get in. Any kids size will do.

Please RSVP to Bo Noonan by December 15th.

I can't wait to see see you all... and that big pile of new shoes!
