Sunday Night

This Sunday night we will be gathering for our monthly night of prayer and worship. I want to encourage all of you to be there as it is the 'engine room' for our church plant.

We will start at 5:30 pm and finish about 7 pm. Childcare will be available. Parents will be asked to take a 20 minute shift in the kids room to help out.

By the way, we had another great day at the Tacoma Farmer's Market. We gave out tons of free stuff and had some great conversations. A real highlight for me has been teaming up with TacomaMama.com to provide an exciting kids zone. I can't wait to get back in the market on Thursday, August 7th.

20/20/20 Groups

I wanted to post a follow up to the message on Sunday. For those of you who weren't there I preached on being a people who 'love the Bible'. Towards the end of my message I gave you all some practical advice on how to read your Bible. Below are the resources I mentioned....

  • Every Thursday at 711 St Helens the doors will be opened at 6:30 am for a 20/20/20 group. 20/20/20 is 20 minutes of Bible reading, 20 minutes of journaling, and 20 minutes of discussion. The beauty of the group is no preparation necessary. I would recommend you bring a Bible, some paper (a journal), and your day planner (to write down those nagging to-do's that keep popping in your head)..... oh, and of course some COFFEE. Swing by a drive through on your way over. I want to encourage you all to get into a 20/20/20 group.... the way you do that is ask a friend to meet with you for an hour... a coffee shop, your home, a park, the student center.... go for it!
  • A bible reading plan. Click here to view a few different plans. These plans will help you read through the whole Bible, which will give you the whole story.
  • A one year Bible. This Bible will get you through the whole Bible in a year and has your readings laid out day by day. You can buy one, or read it online at esv.org.
  • Journal! If you're like me, it really helps to have a pen in hand when I read. I want to recommend the SOAP method. Click here for a sample journal using the SOAP method.
  • Use a Study Bible. I recommend the NASB or the ESV (which will be available in October).
  • Online Bible. Bible Gateway has the Bible in every translation and it's free.
Remember, you should never feel condemnation about your Bible reading. The Bible is there for us to find out how much God loves us, not for us to earn God's love.

It's truly amazing that we have God's words, His desires, His passions, for us and our world in a book.

Special Offering

This Sunday, June 1st, we will be taking a special offering for our summer outreaches. Why? Great question.

This summer is going to be a very exciting summer for NCC. It's an opportunity for us to be out and about blessing the people and place of Tacoma. We have a desire to do a lot and to do it well. This means we will need finances and resources.

We plan on handing out hundreds of free waters, hundreds of balloons, supplying thousands of beads and string for kids jewelry, baseball tickets, father's day gifts, and much, much more.

Please prayerfully consider how much you can give this Sunday. For those of you who give regularly we are really grateful, but now we ask that you go above and beyond your usual giving. And for those who haven't yet given, please consider giving to the mission of New Community Church.

This is a great opportunity for us all to invest in the city and in the Kingdom of God. We really believe your investment will have an eternal return.

Checks can be made out to New Community Church, please write 'summer outreach' in the memo. If you bring cash please place it in an envelope and write 'summer outreach' on the front so that we know how to allocate the funds.

Thank you so much for investing in the mission!

We'll start at 5:30 and should be done about 7 (no promises, but we'll try). Childcare will be available. Parents will be asked to sign up for a 20 minute time slot in the kid's room.

See you all there!

NCC at the Market

I am extremely excited to announce that we have been invited to participate in one of Tacoma's finest events. This summer we will be involved in four (4) days of the Tacoma Farmer's Market. The market will be hosting a new section called the Local Living Lounge which will give non-profits the opportunity to serve the market and promote what they do in the community.

We will need a lot of help pulling this off... setting up, taking down, handing out waters, helping children with crafts, and just some smiling faces. Please let me (Bo) know if you would be interested in helping out.

The dates are as follows....
June 12th - Dad's Day
June 19th - Kid's Day #1
August 7th - Kid's Day #2
September 25th - Mind, Body, Spirit Day

This is an amazing opportunity for us to serve and bless the city of Tacoma!

Save the Date(s)!

I'm sure all of you are as ready as I am for summer. I wanted to mention a couple of dates to all of you that I really hope fit into your summer plans.

First one is July 18-19 (Friday and Saturday). Brad and Beccy Stave have been gracious enough to set up a church camping trip. The location is Belfair State Park which is located about an hour away near the Hood Canal. Activities include swimming, fishing, kids play area, horseshoes, volleyball and much more. Accommodations.... a tent! The trip is open to anyone (NCCer or not an NCCer), but space will be limited so please contact Beccy if you would like to go. (By the way, this is purely a recreational time... no teaching sessions or anything like that.)

The next date is August 15-17 (Friday-Sunday). This is for Newfrontiers Celebration Northwest which is a conference for all the Newfrontiers churches in the northwest. This year we will have Terry Virgo as the main speaker. There will be childcare, kid's programs and Oneblaze (7th - 12th graders). (Oneblaze will actually start on the Wednesday before and then merge into Celebration Northwest.) The conference will be held at Silver Creek Fellowship in Silverton, OR. More details will be available soon. I really want to encourage all of you to attend this one.... and bring a friend if you'd like!
